Review by The__Van

The__Van Normally I would skip over a one off TV appearance but this one strikes me as a bit strange. Aren't they going on a hiatus in literally 4 days? Why bother continuing to promote the new album? Fish appears with his tattered dress, Trey looks disinterested... apparently the band didn't sleep from Vegas to Shoreline. Not sleeping for 5 days doesn't exactly do wonders for your appearance. There is also the parallel between this Tonight Show guest spot and their Late Show guest spot in 2004 where once again the question is why bother?

Review by Abe_Froman

Abe_Froman I was kind of looking forward to this performance. It was a chance to show college friends what I’d been bothering with the last few years and take in Phish once more before the hiatus. I went to 9/20 Cincinnati on this tour and was most definitely a Phish fan at this point. (Deer Creek Moby Dick, Cincy 98, etc)Looking back, I was kind of bummed Phish was stopping.

This was a different time. Seeing Phish on TV was fun and cool. Now, most shows are webcast. Then? You traded cd’s and tapes, watched them on network tube. Got tapes/discs a few days, weeks, months after.

Leno does the “we’re out of time “ gag because of course he does. Leno was a cheese ball. I enjoyed his show, but cheese balls. Phish does Twist, it’s decent. Pro-Phish audience. Phish played the hell out of Twist in 2000, in a good way. (Fukuoka, Alpine, Radio City, Big Cypress counts I believe, and that’s just getting started) This one is fine and the experience was probably fun for them. Jackie Chan was on the show. They’d do another solid Twist at Shoreline (along with SMOOTH 2001>Tweezer) and that was that.

TAB and Oysterhead and Vida Blue, oh my.
