Like most '90-'91 gigs, this one is solid through and through, well-played, but without a lot of exploratory jamming. I would have to say, though, that many tunes go a little above and beyond what I would normally classify as "solid." The first set is mostly of the average-solid variety, with the exception being a Divided Sky that brings the heat a little bit. The second gets off to a solid start with Funky Bitch, which is followed by a young Jim without much of a jam. But the Hood that's up next is really quite good, despite some flubbage in the composed sections, with beautiful work from Trey at the start of the jam and some wailing and flame-throwing toward the end. The Hood was probably the highlight, IMO, followed not too far behind by the Reba, which although just a little above average IMHO is nonetheless very strong for a 1990 version, and features some more excellent fire from Trey. AC/DC Bag also seemed like it was headed in the same direction, but the jam lost its footing towards the end and stumbled to the finish. GTBT, though short, serves as an excellent set-closer, and a Fishman Whipping Post is always a fun encore, especially when he ends with "Oh, Lord, I feel like a vacuum cleaner."

Probably this show deserves only three stars, but I really did enjoy the Hood and Reba, and I think it's really slightly above average. I tend to think of the star ratings in terms of how much time the show would have spent in my car's tape deck back in the old days, and this one would have had a few more spins than the average gig. So I'll be generous and say four stars here.

This Hood is one of my favorite nuggets I've found while mining the lesser known shows. It looks like the jam chart folks found it too.

I think this one may surpass 4/22 and 11/4 for the best of the year. Beautiful early Hood with a soaring peak. The show is available in high quality SBD as well.

Beautiful SBD recording available for this show! A good amount of the room is mixed in. Unfortunately, there are some flaws in the first set.

Things kick off with a crowd pleasing Suzy opener. Little miscue to start Uncle Pen. At the start of Bouncin’ the sound drops from the left channel. The right channel has a lot more of the room mixed in. The quality improves during the ‘Gus the Christmas Dog’ section of Sky. Solid Tweezer. I’m really enjoying these early Tweezer jams. The quality changes again at the start of Gin. A raging Possum closes a very short first set.

Set 2 kicks off with Bitch. Jim seems a bit off to start but recovers nicely. Great versions of Hood, Caravan and Reba!! :::Chef’s Kiss::: Solid Bag. Due to time constraints the band went with a GXBX closer. The encore features Henrietta once again performing a hilarious version of Whipping Post to close out the evening.
