The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
This amazing first installment makes me reflect on that time again and realize just how quickly so many of us flipped right back to "the way things were." The things that this band gave their phans during the pandemic "saved" me (and probably many others.) It's something I don't feel like I'll ever be able to repay. I try to carry those feelings of love and optimism forward, but the "real world" is always trying to worm its way in. I'm looking forward to more installments - I really think it'll help to reconnect to that time and those feelings.
