The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
As for the uh, diverse fan base...99% white. 60-70% male. It is not surprising that there would be Trump supporters in the fan base. One would like to think that there are not Nazis, and said Trump supporters do not support Nazis. Whether Trump is responsible for the increased visibility of such folks (or one might argue, our nation’s greater awareness of the entrenched racism in itself) is not a subject for a show review and is a bad start to a bad review of what seems to be the best show so far.
It does seem like the community needs to be taking better care this tour in re trash in Tahoe, whatever violent things happened at The Gorge. Phish has a clear message of community and love in their middle age and we should take it to heart.
