MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 148

Welcome to the 148th chapter of Phish.net's Mystery Jam Monday! Per usual, if you're the first person to identify the song and date of the mystery clip, you'll win an MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. Each contestant gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, with the answer following on Wednesday. Enjoy!

Answer: The Blog woefully waves its white flag this week. Despite the majority of its 34 seconds consisting of crowd noise, with a few scant seconds at the end vaguely inferring the return back to Foam, @yunkfunk was able to ID the 12/4/94 Foam. The Blog promises to appease the masses, and will at least try to stick to a more traditional, mostly-audible clip for Monday's upcoming one-hundred-and-forty-ninth Mystery Jam.

bl002e FYI: This was posted just now, but pre-dated to allow the latest "Revisiting..." entry to remain at the top of the front page.

Best of luck -- you'll probably need it for this one!

jwp86 Just a guess, although I seem to remember the crowd being louder than that when the sound cut out.

it's def not a 3.0 IMO where crowd is more restrained

Babyrattlesnakes 2/28/91 Golgi is my guess. (The PhishTracks version fades out before loss of power.)

That's exactly what I thought. And I think it was UIC '94 as referenced by Trey in the infamous Charlie Rose interview during which he discussed, among other things, the break-up.
, comment by andrewrose
andrewrose The crowd isn't restrained, it's tiny. I think the latest this could be is one of the smaller 94 shows. I can't believe I'm even pondering possibilities.

Though I think my guess is wrong (even though tomorrow is the anniversary), I'm glad that I made an impulse guess so I don't have to put myself through the agony of actually thinking deeply about this, or, Icculus forbid, actually start going through crowd noise on PhishTracks or iTunes...

mcgrupp81 Ha, I came on late and I am listening and laughing to myself over here. My prediction is that the hint (if needed) will be "This is not from an acapella song".

My guess is 10/7/95 Spokane Harry Hood.
, comment by WayIFeel
WayIFeel It sounds like an outdoor '98 to me. Gonna go with

7.21.98 AC/DC Bag

I've been screaming for a MJM from this show for a while but I never thought the MJM would be the crowd portion of the Bag.

uctweezer Last week, from @bl002e:

"Guys, gals, don't be appalled if next week's selection ends up being a silent jam."

I guess we're not allowed to be appalled!

postrnutbag I have a hunch this is a Simple of some kind.
, comment by HarborSeal
HarborSeal Pretty sure yunkfunk nailed it. Listen for the distinctive whoops around 6:10-6:20.

Assuming that's right, s/he* ID'd about 30 seconds worth of crowd noise in less than an hour. Not bad.

* Has a woman ever won Mystery Jam?

Gotta be honest. Not sure if I did or not. Pretty sure it's Foam that they go back into at the end of the snippet from hell...

Not a woman, though. Sorry to disappoint @HarborSeal...whether I win or not.
, comment by slpingmnky
slpingmnky that does sound a bit like it, i was originally thinking an esther. tough one to peg.
, comment by PersnicketyJim
PersnicketyJim Was thrown off by what almost sounded like a "Farmer in the Dell" tease, which had me focused on 4/4/94. And that shows was further intriguing because of the a capella start of the show, which is cut off in most recordings, but alas... Amazing work, @yunkfunk.

SilentHorse 12/4/94 was my first show... the night my life changed forever. I was hooked from the first song (Jim), and I distinctly remember this silent jam. I am so glad I got to see them in this (relatively) small venue before it was amphitheaters and arenas for years to come. Glad to see this sleeper of a gem of a show get some love!!

And yet, it took less than the length of your average Phish set for someone to solve it. Hmmm.

No worries at all -- I took it as good-natured rubbing at worst.
