Review by MrPalmers1000DollarQ

MrPalmers1000DollarQ A major highlight of the Fall '94 tour. Both sets of this show feature Phish at its very best, starting out with an exuberant Runaway Jim, Foam combo. This Foam might be my all-time favorite, if only for the ascent from Trey's quiet, pitch-shifted moment in the spotlight to its peak. Fishman really serves this one with some extra flare. After a cool-off If I Could, Maze puts the heat right back on. Trey's comping on Page's solo works in some really cool quartal motifs, and then Trey's solo has the whole band going ballistic. A frenzied and chaotic approach to the peak. Next up we get a strong early Guyute and a dark and gloomy Stash, notable for its riff-play, long sections of tension, and a zany vocal jam finish. Esther and Julius close out Set 1 pretty nicely.

The second set opens up with uncharted Julius and Fluffhead, both of which stand just slightly above their peers from the period (though maybe I'm biased based on the first half of the show). Julius rocks the doors off the venue--every time you think the band could wrap up, they elect not to. Killer stuff. Page really shines on Fluffhead, as well. Up next is the obvious high point of the show, as we get the first ever really jammed out DwD. This one isn't your funky slow '97 DwD...it works its way through a number of sections with full band riffing, a sweet piano spotlight, and a climb back to a dark twist on the DwD proper jam before transitioning into a bust-out Have Mercy. The Have Mercy jam turns ominous before the band boils back up into a shredding revisit to DwD. This goes unfinished as the band burns out and melts right into a spirited Lifeboy. The acoustic bluegrass trio is a nice mid-set breather (I always loved their take on Long Time), and then we get a tear-jerking Harry Hood. Fall '94 put out some incredible Hoods, and this one is right up there among the best. Pure hose. Golgi and Sample cap off the show with a celebratory singalong vibe. 5 Damn Stars.
