Review by MrPalmers1000DollarQ

MrPalmers1000DollarQ Another very solid Spring '93 show full of consistent, interdisciplinary strength. The first set packs quite a punch, especially the run from CDT through Possum. Esther is a tune of which I often have a hard time grasping the jam-chart-worthiness, but I can definitely agree that Page shines particularly strongly on this performance. Hot off the heels of the 4/21/93 version that snuck its way onto Hoist, SOaM enjoys some excellent shredding and syncopation across the band's members as it enters what Trey has identified as the song's Golden Era. Possum definitely has some real awesome ripping in it as well; Fishman crushes it.

Second set keeps the torch lit with a spicy AC/DC Bag that has some fun dynamic variation on Trey's solo. Page gets a few nice moments in the spotlight on It's Ice and McGrupp, but the real highlight of the set (and the show) is the Tweezer. One of my favorite versions of this song to date, the band covers plenty of ground throughout the jam, touching on everything including a Carole King jam, some minor descending harmonic movements, and a reallllly smooth transition into Manteca, which itself fluctuates quite nicely and naturally in terms of dynamics before morphing back into Tweezer jam. A quieter, rhythmically playful section quickly gives way into a triumphant, peaking solo, and then fades into the dissociative fragmentation captured on the studio track. Certainly up there with the greatest pre-94 Tweezers and pre-empts the rock-solid definition of August '93 toward which the band was quickly hurtling at the time.
